2009 math recovery NAtional conference

The mood was undeniably upbeat. You could feel the anticipation and excitement in the air as this year's Conference kicked off Tuesday, April 13 with a full day of Pre-Conference sessions, followed by three more days of full Conference activity.  Judging by attendance figures, Math Recovery's fourth annual National Conference was a tremendous success, boasting  the largest-ever number of registrations and presenters.  A grand total of 220 registrants made the trip to sunny Minneapolis from 21 different U.S. states and five foreign countries (Ireland, England, Canada, Australia and Mexico).

Each day was packed with a full slate of interactive sessions, workshops and video presentations designed to incorporate a broad range of topics and tracks. A total of 45 presenters brought their talents to this year's Conference, with topics as diversified as new ways to use the RekenRek, recognizing and utilizing finger patterns with small children, and new classroom activities to encourage students in their ongoing mathematical prowess.

The widespread success of Math Recovery in the field of elementary education could be gauged in part by the unprecedented number of first-time attendees, who clearly enjoyed the opportunity to chat and socialize with long-time Math Recovery members, Conference  attendees had the rare opportunity to hear Dr. Bob Wright and Dr. Peter Gould deliver individual keynote addresses later, as well as to learn from some of the top educators and experts in the field of early numeracy and K-5 mathematical education. Many newcomers expressed the opinion that while this was their first trip to a Math Recovery National Conference, it would certainly not be their last.

On Tuesday morning, Christina Miller of South Dakota and Analysia Heikkila of Wyoming were recognized by Dr. Bob Wright for their achievements this year in finishing their Math Recovery Leader training.

Photographs were taken at all workshops and seminar sessions, as well as individual and group portraits, by our official Math Recovery photographer Earl Robbins; these photos may be viewed now on www.earlrobbins.com

For everyone who was able to join us in Minneapolis this year, thank you for making this Conference such an overwhelming success!

Make sure to mark your calendars and plan ahead for next year, when our 2010 National Conference will be held April 28-30 in the Western region of the U.S.  Watch this site for more information!
