Math Recovery in Action: Michigan Educators Observe Best Practices
Educators from across Michigan recently gathered at Carpenter and Allen Elementary Schools in Ann Arbor (MI) to collaborate Math Recovery best practices. The event provided an opportunity for Math Recovery leaders to observe classroom instruction, engage in discussions about effective implementation strategies, and share insights on improving math intervention. Teachers and specialists from Ann Arbor Public Schools showcased their integration of Math Recovery into daily instruction, demonstrating how targeted support can help students build foundational math understanding.
“It’s wonderful to come and learn here with Ann Arbor teachers because they’ve been using it longer than we have,” Cheryl Quinn, a math interventionist at Honey Creek Community School in Ann Arbor, said. “I’m seeing a lot of success. In fact, I have a couple students this year that came from Carpenter Elementary School and it’s been fascinating to see the difference in how their math number sense is compared to our students’ math number sense. Ours are growing and the ones coming from Carpenter can show us where we need to go to.”
Many noted the value of seeing Math Recovery practices in action and engaging in meaningful discussions about instructional strategies and student progress. The event highlighted the importance of ongoing professional development and peer collaboration in strengthening math education across Michigan.
