Dessert Time: Equal Grouping (Independent)
Purpose: Share a collection into groups of a given size
Description: Students create equal groups of a specified size.
Players: 2-3
Directions
-
1
Each player has their own Dessert Time Recording Sheet. Players pretend to make dessert plates of chocolates (snap cubes) shared on paper plates.
-
2
Player A rolls the die to determine how many dessert plates to set out then records the number of plates on the record sheet.
-
3
Player A then rolls their die again to determine how many chocolates each plate should have. This number is recorded on the record sheet. Player then gathers up the number of chocolates each plate will have and places them on the plates.
-
4
Player A determines the total number of chocolates needed and records this on their sheet.
-
5
Player B is the inspector for Player A to ensure that the dessert order is correct and confirms the total of chocolates.
-
6
Player B takes their turn while Player A becomes the inspector.
-
7
Both players compare the totals to see who has the most chocolates.
-
8
The player with the most chocolates wins the round.
-
9
Player B gets to start round two.
Variations
Students can work to determine the total number of chocolates without making the plates. Students can make the plates after solving to verify their work.
To increase the number of items in each group (chocolates), the students can use a 10-sided die (numerals 0-9).
