Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe (Independent)
Purpose: Develop initial mental strategies for addition involving adding on from a decuple (e.g., 40 + 3)
Description: Students solve addition tasks, trying to get three in a row in a traditional game of Tic-Tac-Toe.
Players: 2
Directions

Player A spins both spinners to generate the addition task to solve.

Player A shares the solution aloud and places a counter on the board.

Player B takes their turn.

If “Remove One” is spun, remove an opponent’s counter from the board.

Play continues until a player has a sequence of five counters horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
Variations
Provide Base-10 dot materials for students still developing mental strategies or to check solutions.
